Tomato Soup Recipes: Ingredients of a Good Appetizer

Soups are common before having an exquisite meal especially in fine dining. Tomato soup dishes have different variations depending on the main course since tomato soups must fit in with the menu.

Here are the main ingredients of a Tomato Soup appetizer:

¼ kg fresh garden tomatoes
1 large skin white onion
3 garlic cloves
8 tablespoons of olive oil
Tomato sauce (preferably in can)
½ kg fresh shrimp
Salt and pepper (for flavoring)
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/8th of a teaspoon clove
1 tablespoon dried basil
3 to 4 bay leaves
½ tablespoon butter

Most vegetarians would prefer their tomato soup dishes to be composed of many vegetable ingredients while the traditional tomato soup would either compose of pork, seafood, beef, or chicken depending on the preference of the person cooking it.

Directions for cooking:

  1. Add 8 tablespoons of olive oil on a pot and wait until it heats up before putting ½-tablespoon butter. Makes sure that the butter is not brown scorched. Sauté white onions with garlic in the pot together with butter.
  2. Quarterly slice the onion into thin slices and remove the seeds before mixing it with the white onions in the frying pot. Stir in order to separate the white onions from the tomatoes.
  3. Place together in the pot the bay leaves, brown sugar, basil, gloves and newly sliced garlic as well. Simmer on low heat and stir for at least forty-five minutes (simmering with the use of low heat is very important in order to cook well the ingredients) mix additional vegetables if preferred. Meat on the other hand must not be mixed directly in the pot but cooked separately.
  4. Remove the bay leaves from the pot and disregard them since you would not need them anymore. Let the soup cool down for at least fifteen minutes and remove as many tomato skins possible.
  5. Puree the soup in a blender in order to shred all remaining tomato skins and onions and place it back to the pot. Use a strainer if necessary to drain the remaining tomato skins and seeds.
  6. Add the tomato sauce to the pot (tomato paste can be used as an alternative however add water in order to make the tomato paste a bit watery) and then simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Add vegetable broth flavoring and use salt and pepper to add additional flavor to the soup.
Additional toppings can be added such as fresh onion leaves. Add the cooked meat together in the pot.

Tomato soup appetizers mix well with continental and European meals. Soup from tomato on the other hand is best served while hot where in some other parts of the world, tomato soups are mixed with chili sauce for an additional twist.
